A couple months back I created a “bucket list” containing 100 things I want to do in my life. Recently I got to cross five things off and it encourage me to see what else I could achieve. After flipping through the list I came to running a 5k. I knew their was one coming up so I figured hey why not.
You have to understand running has never been my thing. It always kind of seemed pointless to me. I firmly believed that running was something only done if you were being chased. To run 3.1 miles for entertainment seemed so out of my realm.
This is where you may be wondering how running a 5k landed on my list. I am an avid fan of Biggest Looser. They always finish the season with the contestants running a marathon. After watching so many seasons , one thing always remains the same. It is the contestants sense of pride and accomplishment in finishing and leaving it all on the road. I wanted to feel that, and while the 3.1 miles is not anything compared to the 26.1 mile marathon. It is a huge step for me.
I am literally stepping out of my comfort zone and doing this. I printed off my application, filled it in and mailed it. There is no turning back. Now, all that is left to do is to lace up my running shoes and get out there on the road. The race is on September 4th, wish me luck!
